Queensland couple Brightnye and James reveal the reality of age-gap relationships – Aumag

An Australian couple with 35 years between them have opened up about the reality of being in a relationship with a big age gap.

Brightnye met James during a night out at a casino in June 2021.

The 22-year-old, originally from Christchurch, New Zealand, told News.com.au in her drunken state that she decided to buy nine sandwiches – something that caught her now lover’s attention.

The 57-year-old struck up a conversation with Brightnye and, despite their 35-year age difference, the pair quickly fell in love – recently celebrating their one-year anniversary.

The couple, who live in Queensland, have decided to share their story on social media.

They told the publication that their relationship was a slow burn, and many friends were skeptical.

“Obviously it took some time, because of our age difference it was a big problem for us at first,” James said.

“We kept thinking, this is crazy, we should stop this nonsense. But we couldn’t stay away from each other.”

“But we really love each other and that’s all that matters in the end.”

Brightnye said people often confuse James with her father.

“People think he’s my dad all the time,” she said.

James was previously married for 30 years and has four daughters.

The pair took to TikTok earlier this year to open up about their age-gap relationship, quickly amassing over 20,000 followers.

The couple says most people are very supportive of their love.

“Age is just a number if you’re happy that’s all that matters hope you have a great relationship,” one person wrote on TikTok.

“Looks like you’re having a lot of fun together,” said another.
