Hollywood is all about connections, and Michael Bolton made one with a young girl who would help him down the line. During an interview with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM Radio (via "Today"), he explained that many years ago, his guitarist dated Paula Abdul's older sister. At the time, Bolton was writing songs and making demos in an attempt to land a record deal in Los Angeles. He, the guitarist, and the guitarist's girlfriend wanted to go out one night but were unable to because the woman's little sister, Paula, couldn't be left home alone. Bolton explained, "So that turned into the perception that we were babysitting for her. We were all stuck at the house basically."
Abdul also recalled the story during an interview on "The Kelly Clarkson Show." She said that her sister Wendy and Michael were friends, and she remembered him as a Connecticut songwriter who visited the West Coast during the summer. Abdul explained, "He had his girlfriend, who ended up being his wife later on, Maureen. We were all together and I would be in my Brownie uniform and no one wanted to babysit and we'd make Michael [do it] ... Michael would have to babysit."
But Bolton didn't do a good job, according to Abdul, because he only cared about music. However, years later, Bolton called Abdul and asked for her help to choreograph one of his videos. She knew it was him and not a joke because he called her a "little brat."
