Travis Scott Announces New Label "Cactus Jack Records"

September 2024 · 2 minute read

"I’m not doing it to have financial control over my music," he says of the idea behind the new label. "I want first and foremost to help other artists, launch new names, to provide opportunities. I want to do for them what happened to me, but better. By better I mean no bullshit. No lying to the artists about album release dates or the budgets of videos and albums."

Travis has been signed to EPIC since 2012. It's unclear if Cactus Jack will be an imprint under the label.

The interview also features a quote about Travis' first encounter with Kanye West, who has become a regular collaborator of his.

"Kanye, he’s my buddy," said Travis. "When I got the chance to meet him I was so nervous. He listened to my music and thought it was cool. Two weeks later he sent me an email and I found myself on the way to Paris to take part in his Yeezus album.”

Scott also made sure to praise some artists outside of the genre of rap, expressing his fandom fro Black Sabbath, Calvin Harris, James Blake, and Tame Impala. In general, he's making an effort not to limit himself to being a "rapper."

"What the fuck is a rapper?" he says. "I dunno. A country singer, it doesn’t mean anything anymore. No one is a country singer unless he wants to get stuck in one single genre. Me, I sing, I rap, I do beats, I sometimes make videos. Labels piss me off. "
